Swimming can have significant benefits to your mental health. Swimming has helped to reduce the symptoms of anxiety or depression. Swimming and being in water can help with relaxation, clearing the mind, encouraging positivity, and building a sense of self-worth. If you are not a swimmer, make sure you are comfortable with water and it's not triggering any traumas. Also, make sure you start off in a pool with a trained swimmer until you grasp swimming. Also, avoid crowds to avoid triggering situations and to help you focus on the moment. Make sure you stay hydrated with bottled spring water as swimming causes dehydration.

Massage therapy has always been the solution for relaxation. When people become relaxed, their heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen consumption, and salivary cortisol levels decrease. This helps reduce stress and anxiety, which are the two leading causes of depression. Massages have been shown to improve sleep patterns in children, adolescents, and adults that suffer from insomnia, cerebral palsy, fibromyalgia, and migraines.

While enjoying your massage, try these essential oils to alleviate high stress: Lavender and chamomile have a soft, pleasant smell that helps create a sense of calm. Inhaling cedarwood improves performance and promotes focus. Frankincense promotes relaxation alleviates depression as well as helped with pain management.

Yoga

When you do yoga, your brain cells develop new connections, and change occur in brain structure as well as function, resulting in improved cognitive skills, such as learning and memory. Yoga can affect mood by elevating levels of a brain chemical called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which is associated with better mood and decreased anxiety. Meditation also reduces activity in the limbic system, the part of the brain dedicated to emotions.

Nature

Spending some time with nature reduces stress and anxiety. Research has proven people that spend lots of time around nature are usually happier in life. Nature improves focus. This is why you find many people writing and drawing while outside. Nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical well-being, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones. Increased working memory performance has been shown to be linked to daily exposure to natural environments. Natural environments compared with urban environments is associated with improved attention, executive function, and perceived restorativeness. Even if it's freezing, remember to get some exposure to nature. Just going outside while freezing can reduce your anxiety, overwhelming feelings, and anger.
